Review: The Wandering Towers (Capstone Games) – English

Every year new wizards graduate, but like any student, these sorcerers-in-training are especially lazy. In fact, the magic students must gather at the Raventower with a full collection of potions, but of course they waited until the last minute to study and prepare. Now it is a race against the clock… AND other students to be the first to arrive at the Raventower with magic potions in order to get a leg up on the professors and graduate from the academy. They will move not only themselves but also the tower in order to be on time and put a heel on the other players. Do you know how to win this magic race?

Setup and objective

Assemble the game board, consisting of four parts, and set up the Raventower and the other towers. Depending on the number of players, players receive a number of wizards to be distributed on the towers. The cards are shuffled and each player receives about three cards to start. Players also receive a number of empty vials to fill with potions during the game.

The player who is the first to dump all his wizards into the Raventower with filled potions ends the game and the player with the most filled potions wins in case of a tie and otherwise just the player who finished first wins.

Gameplay

Each turn a player can play two cards to perform actions. With these cards, players can move their sorcerers as well as towers. Moves are always performed clockwise and towers can be stacked. Incidentally, players can also move parts of stacked towers to unstack towers again. Players may not move Raventowers on their own.

By moving wizards exactly in the Raventower, they may dump the corresponding wizard into the tower. Their turn then ends, however. After a wizard enters the Rav Tower, the Rav Tower moves to the next free field or tower with a coat of arms.

By moving towers, you can trap wizards from yourself and other players. As a result, these wizards cannot be moved. They can be freed again by moving (parts of) towers. Incidentally, they can move Raventower by moving a piece of tower below it!

With full potions, players can activate additional effects.

Conclusion

The Wandring Towers is a nice dynamic family game where players can thwart each other by locking each other in or moving towers. Enchanted madness!
