Review: Dobble Disney 100 Years of Wonder (Asmodee) – English

Disney celebrates 100 years of existence and the whole year is therefore dedicated to “the House of Mouse”. To celebrate the centenary, various collectibles and special and limited editions of all kinds of products and merchandise are already on the shelves, and of course Disney could not miss out. Thus, there is also Dobble Disney 100 Years of Wonder (hereafter Disney Dobble).

Dobble (aka Spot It!) is an immensely popular game of which several editions have already appeared and several game variations. Although Dobble looks like rolling dice in some languages there are no dice to be seen, but the name Dobble does indicate what players should do during this game: see Dobble. In Dobble, each card has different symbols and players may (depending on the game mode) take or discard cards if they manage to match symbols.

Disney Dobble contains a hefty deck of cards. Each card contains 9 Disney and/or Pixar characters and each card contains a different composition with different figures, with the figures depicted on the card also varying in size from card to card. Two cards always have exactly one figure in common. For someone who is bad at maths or Excel this looks like a maths miracle.

Disney Dobble contains several game variants that are all played slightly differently and even a unique game variant in which Minnie and Mickey play a special role. Basically, each variant of Dobble progresses the same way. Cards are turned over (often players already have a card in their hand) and they have to match the figures on two cards. In certain game variants, players try to be the first to discard their cards by matching them with cards on the table and in other game variants, players actually try to collect the most cards. In total, the Disney Dobble manual contains 5 variants (minigames.)

Dobble is a funny and fast-paced party game in which players are quick to see double, but by no means Dobble. These kinds of speed games always do well with groups of party animals, families and children. This edition of Dobble is perfect for Disney fans, but laymen can quickly remember the names of the characters due to the handy appendix listing all the different characters.
