Review: Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon (Bandai Namco) – English

Don your best mechsuit, put your favorite weapon on your shoulder or in your hand and explore the world of Rubicon in the game Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon by FromSoftware. Will you mech it to the end or end up on the scrap heap?

FromSoftware, surely that maker of extremely challenging games such as Dark Souls, Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, goes back to its roots with this game. Armored Core VI is a sequel to a series that has been around since the 1990s. It is a tactical and challenging game, but a bit less ruthless than the “Soulslike” games I mentioned above.

You are a mercenary in a robot combat suit and you land on the planet Rubicon, which contains the valuable resource Coral and where different factions battle each other. By making choices in the missions you do, you shape the story itself.

But the core of the game is still about fighting in your mech. You have complete freedom in finding or buying parts and weapons allowing you to create your own unique mech with its own powers. For example, depending on your choices you can float in the air for a very long time or move very sharply. In addition, you can also give everything your own lick of paint for that personal touch. Needless to say, my mech was bright green!

Missions are short and thus ideal for in between. Sometimes there is also a longer mission in between with an impressive final boss, which challenges your tactical and creative mind and can test your patience. Armored Core VI, I say yes!
