Review: 6th Sense (Jumbo Games)

EN: Are you gifted with clairvoyance? A sixth sense? Then you must be good at trick-taking games where you have to predict the outcome (think of Herrlof and Wizard). Also in the aptly named game 6th Sense, from Jumbo Games, you try to predict how many tricks you will win. Are you really foresighted or are you actually farsighted?

6th Sense is a classic trick-taking game with a twist. Each player receives a hand of cards with different colours and values. An additional card is placed on the table: the trump colour for this round. Each turn, the leader plays a card and the other players have to confess colour/follow. The player with the highest card in the chosen colour wins, unless a player has the highest card in the trump colour. The player who wins that turn is the next leader and the player who has the most points after six rounds is the winner.

How to collect points? In 6th Sense, at the beginning of a round the players choose one of the cards from their hand. This card is the prediction, the number on this card is the amount of tricks this player is trying to win during this round. Based on the hand, the player must therefore guess how many tricks he/she thinks he/she is going to win. If your prediction is correct, you will receive as many points as the tricks won. If your prediction is wrong, you will receive minus points equal to the number of tricks you had more or less than predicted.

6th Sense also contains several cards with special effects. For example, a 6/9 can be played as either a 6 or a 9, the 4 turns the deck over (the lowest card wins the trick) and if someone comes out with 12, the winner of the trick can count as two tricks won.

6th Sense is very similar to other trick-taking games and it is certainly not the only trick-taking game where you have to predict how many tricks you will win. The combination of special effects, predicting with one of the hand cards and the fact that the game can be played with 2 or even 6 players, make it a very nice addition to my collection. Despite the fact that I am not impaired by clairvoyance, I like this game.
