In the game Trekking the World, published by Underdog Games, players travelled around the world in 30 minutes. In the process, they visited all kinds of sights and ancient, cultural and unusual locations at a rapid pace. Would the players have learned anything from their travels? A nice detail of Trekking the World is that the destination cards that players collect contain information about the locations and places of interest. Not necessary from a gameplay perspective but great fun to brush up on locations you might want to visit. However, this trivia is limited, because the world is immense and full of facts. How much do you know about the world? In the spin-off Trekking the World Trivia, you can proudly display your trivial factual knowledge!
Trekking the World Trivia is basically a simple trivia game. The game contains a box of cards with questions on various topics for the travel-minded fact-finder. There is, however, a twist in the way these questions are asked. Each turn, the ‘narrator’ draws a card with questions. The narrator reads out the question on the Q-side of the card (on the reverse side, of course, is the answer). This side always contains a question that players must approach with a number. The narrator (in case of more than 2 players) is the first to give an answer and shows his or her answer to the other players who then secretly write down their answer on their board. The player whose answer is closest to the correct answer wins a point and receives a bonus question. However, answers from players who exceed the correct answer are excluded. Players don’t have to know the exact answer, guessing will get you a long way, as long as you don’t give too high an answer. This is a nice twist since you can also compete for the win without knowing the (specific) answer and still score points with logical thinking or a good guess.
The player who got the closest gets a bonus question. A new question is read out, this time from the A-side of the card. On this side there are more traditional trivia questions (in addition to the answer from the corresponding Q-side). The answers of these questions are ingeniously placed on the Q-side (indicated within the text for that question itself). Because of this, you actually have 3 trivia questions per card and thus a lot more variation. If the player manages to answer his or her bonus question correctly (less chance of guessing this time) then this player receives a bonus point.
Trekking the World Trivia is and remains a trivia game. If you absolutely do not like games that focus on factual knowledge, this game will probably not change your opinion. However, the game does provide an opportunity for all players, as most of the questions players are asked during a game are ‘approach questions’. Players who normally avoid Trivial Pursuit-type games due to lack of factual knowledge about certain subjects, also have a chance here. Because of the theme (the world, travelling, sightseeing), the game contains a wide selection of different questions.
