Review: Outsmarted! – English

Outsmarted is quite similar to Trivial Pursuit, but aimed at modern audiences. Updated questions and a new feel. No cake moulds, but real characters from the past are used to move around the game board.

The options?

  • Amelia Earhart

The first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, Earhart is a flying force to be reckoned with.

  • Albert Einstein

Since our German-born theoretical physicist is fluent in quantum mechanics, in theory, he’ll bring some relatively to the test.

  • Leonardo da Vinci

Da Vinci, the High Renaissance Italian polymath, will draw upon his limitless creativity and inventiveness.

  • Cleopatra

With resolute and stoic leadership, enough even for Roman political battles, this Egyptian Queen might bathe in glory.

  • George Washington Carver

As one of the 20th Century’s most prominent agricultural scientists, if Carver can restore deputed soil, knowledge will be easy.

  • William Shakespeare

Widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language, Shakespeare’s literary prowess is literally unrivalled.

All of them are geniuses in their own way and in their own time. The miniatures played with are very nicely made ánd in colour! As in ’traditional’ Trivial Pursuit, players have to answer questions. Each correct answer ensures that the turn is retained. When a player reaches a ring question, a correct answer earns the player a ring. After gaining six rings, the final round follows and players must answer three final questions correctly to win Outsmarted! Incidentally, there are several variants of the game to play. The desired variant can simply be chosen in the app.

An app? That’s right! There are no question cards. A licence code is provided which can be entered into the app. The advantage of using an app is that the categories are updated weekly (and the ‘Breaking News’ category even daily). This keeps the game up to date and no two games will be the same. Another added advantage is that players can join remotely and therefore not everyone needs to be in the same room together. Last but not least, it is nice to mention that the questions can be tailored to the player’s age. This also makes Outsmarted very suitable for families with young(er) children.

But I have already mentioned the most important thing: the miniatures. They are SO good!
