Review: Klask (Klask ApS) – English

KLASK!!! When you hear that sound you know you’re scoring in this dexterity game that wouldn’t look out of place at a party, during a family and/or friends getaway, at a bar or just during a fun game night. If you like Foosball, Crokinole, air hockey or shuffleboard then KLASK will probably be up your alley.

Background

What a little Viking craftsmanship can accomplish. The Danish carpenter with the Deenst name ever (Mikkel Bertelsen) came up with a table football-like game during his spare time in his workshop, where you use some strong magnets to move a pawn to shoot a ball across. KLASK was born and after he managed to gain popularity locally, after some word of mouth it quickly became popular in Denmark and the rest of the world. Mikkel managed to handcraft as many as 3,000 games in the first year.

Avid readers know that we love skill games. Otherwise, of course, we wouldn’t write a blog on the subject either. Crokinole is also a standard participant at our parties and I have played many games of foosball myself. I had therefore had been interested in trying KLASK for some time.

Gameplay

Set up the table, place the pawns on the board and the magnetic levers under the board. Put the three white cubes in the middle and players are ready to kick the yellow ball.

Many games at parties require you to keep your hands above the table to keep it somewhat child-friendly, but with KLASK, hands do go under the console. Players use the lever to move their pawn and tap the ball across, but they can score in multiple ways.

Players can score if their opponent has two white cubes attached to his pawn (by the magnets). Players can also score if the opponent drops the pawn and cannot get it back up or drops the pawn into their goal. Of course, you also get a point if the ball stays in your opponent’s goal. So basically, you score a point if you hear “KLASK!” on the other side!

Verdict

KLASK is a wonderfully simple game with enough depth and agility. You can focus on scoring, but provoking your opponent with quick moves or by sending the white cubes at that player are also very satisfying ways to win. With 6 points on the counter, you win! One thing: after that you want another game and then another game and then another game and then another game and then another game….
