Review: Dreamworks Dragons: Legends of the Nine Realms (Outright Games) – English

Dreamworks Dragons: Legends of the Nine Realms is not only a mouthful, but also the title of a video game based on an animated series based on Dreamworks’ series of animated films How to Tame a Dragon. In this game, you take on the role of the dragon Thunder who is very energetic. By the way, Thunder is thunderously similar to Toothless. That’s because Thunder is a descendant of the legendary dragon you know better as the dragon and best friend of Hiccup. Thunder’s family is in danger and dragons have become violent. So it’s time for Thunder to go on an adventure.

What kind of game is Dragons? Well it is a simple RPG-like game with classic Dungeon Crawler-like gameplay. Players take on the role of Thunder, but unlock multiple dragons during the game. Players have light attacks, heavy attacks and also attacks that allow them to attack their enemies from a distance. Battles are fairly simple and the AI of opponents is not too challenging, which obviously makes the game especially suitable for younger players who are fans of Dragons. Occasionally, and there comes a final boss that does offer a little more thunder.

The game consists of several worlds with levels and has linear gameplay. In the levels you can find crystals and other items that you can collect. With these items, players can improve their dragon and unlock features. The levels consist of simple puzzles where you have to fly short distances, use attacks and the special properties. Each dragon has special abilities and players must utilize all the dragons to complete the levels. The RPG elements are nicely done though to help young players already get some way into the wonderful and varied world of RPGs.
