Review: Tasso Banana (Playte) – English

Fruit is nature’s candy. A salad made from various tasty vegetables and the right combination of other ingredients is already scrumptious, but a salad made from sweets is bound to make you swallow it like candy. How to make the tastiest fruit salad? Apple, strawberry, apricot, grapes, dates and melon. Blackberries, currants and raspberries. Oranges and lemon. Papaya, banana and pineapple. Mango. Kiwi, kiwi, coconut! To Are you in the mood for an equally fruity game? In Tasso Banana you reap the fruits of your agility.

Tasso Banana is part of the LBoard series from Korean publisher Playte. We wrote reviews about these special editions of games before. With the LBoard series, the game box is an integral part of the gaming experience. The boxes fold out into an L-shape that can be used as (among other things) the game board or as an amplifier in the case of the game Stereo Mind (which incidentally received a Seal of Excellence from The Dice Tower). Playte also provides reissues of classic games with their LBoard series, but with the special game components.

Tasso Banana is also a reissue of a now 20-year-old game. Namely, it is a new version of the agility game Tasso, but this time it is not played with bars, but with bananas and certainly enhances the gaming experience.

The game is simple: distribute all the bananas among the participants and each turn a player must place a banana on the board. The player who has no bananas left after his turn is the winner. A bit of dexterity is important here. At the beginning of the game you unfold the box into the game board where players will place their bananas. Bananas may only be placed above the dotted line and may not touch the placed leaves. Also, bananas may not touch each other either, but there is an important exception here: players are allowed to place a banana on top of two bananas and if they succeed they get another turn. If they fail, they must pick up all fallen bananas and add them to their supply.

Tasso Banana is insidiously simple, but a very entertaining and extremely short dexterity game. Due to the shape of the bananas, stacking bananas can be quite challenging at times.
