Christmas is coming around again! A wonderful Christmas tradition that lends itself tremendously well to all kinds of consumption are Advent calendars.
An advent calendar allows you to count down to many people’s favorite holiday on the flying stone we call our earth. They used to light candles or allow you to tear open a compartment of your advent calendar each day and find chocolate or some other goodies. We are all becoming more exuberant and so are the Advent calendars. Every day you can tear open a compartment and find anything you can think of: LEGO, beer, tea, erotic toys, exotic spices, wellness products, Hotwheels and all kinds of presents from your favorite franchises such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig and Disney. You can get calendars from every chocolate brand and there are even advent calendars that offer a piece of an escape room every day or a radio-controlled car.
Every year my fiancé and I prepare a calendar for each other. A few years ago, I had ordered for her, an avid puzzler, a Wentworth wooden puzzle with her own print. I divided the different wooden pieces into 24 bags and boxes so that she would collect pieces of the puzzle each day and then enjoy puzzling during Christmas. For this year, wee decided to purchase several advent calendars and try them out to compare experiences with our “own” calendars.
So when the puzzle company PickForU asked me if I wanted to test and explain one of their puzzles for you, I didn’t have to hesitate for long when I saw their wooden puzzle advent calendar. As with my homemade wooden puzzle , PickForU’s advent calendar contains 24 bags of wooden puzzle pieces.
By the way, PickForU went about it a lot smarter than I did at the time. I had randomly distributed the pieces so that you could only start puzzling on the last day. With this PickForU Christmas puzzle, things are different. In fact, each day you puzzle a piece of the bigger picture. You get multiple pieces that make up a smaller piece. This allows you to puzzle a piece every day in preparation for Christmas.
In addition to a beautiful box, which is divided into four compartments, and the various individual pockets, you also get 24 tiny wooden clothespins, a piece of string and some double-sided stickers so that you can catch the puzzle at will on the wall or ceiling. You can hang the box as a Christmas arrangement and remove the bags from the compartments, but the most fun is to hang all the bags on the string with the clothespin and thus decorate the whole room Christmassy during the December month.
The puzzle itself exudes classic Christmas. The wooden pieces have tricky shapes, making puzzling challenging, and some of the shapes are thematic, making for an entertaining and Christmassy puzzle experience.
