Blog: Uprising Curse of the Last Emperor Expansions – English

Uprising: the Curse of the Last Emperor is a huge and awesome cooperative challenge for 1 to 4 players originally funded via Kickstarter and released by Nemesis.Games in 2021/2022. In this cooperative 4X game, players each take on the role of one of the rebellious tribes of Azuhl and try to oust the empire and eradicate Chaos. Although the original game is already very comprehensive, several expansion sets have since been released that add new factions, gameplay elements and modules or simply embellish the game components. In this blog, we list them all.

Uprising

We had high praise for the base game. In our review, I concluded with the statement that Uprising is perhaps one of the better games I have ever played. Uprising is exciting right to the end. The game is hugely challenging and a rock-solid twist on the 4X genre. You notice the amount of love poured into the game.

Due to the different (combinations of) tribes, event cards, items, enemies, terrain tiles and even expansions, the game contains a huge amount of variety so that different games will not easily turn out the same. The game materials and artwork are beautiful. Highly recommended for all expert board players. More variety was not needed, but is provided by the various expansions such as Arch-Nemesis and Titans of the First Age.

Arch-Nemesis

This expansion includes not only 4 new playable races/factions (Tua Than, Hokqan, Ytuma and the Renegade Legion), but also 4 super-sized bosses for players to take on! Each one is a so-called Arch-Nemesis. There are 2 Arch-Nemesis that can be used for The Empire (The Drakoliche and The Empress) and 2 for Chaos (The Kraken and The Harvester). An Arch-Nemesis replaces the usual Hordes and Legions in the last Chapter of the game. The Omens is also an additional gameplay element that will make players wary of what the future holds for them.

Arch-Nemesis mainly adds extra variety to the existing game without flipping the entire game. Players can use the new factions to test new strategies and create new stories during their play sessions.

Titans of the First Age

The Titans of the First Age expansion offers numerous new options for your armies and once again gives players access to new factions (two this time) to play with for added variety. In addition, this expansion gives new game options and ways to influence the game including a way to re-roll dice. It also adds a slew of mercenaries and new types of enemies, turning the game upside down a bit more.

Wonderful components

Besides the ‘game content’ expansion sets, there are also a lot of upgrades available for the game. For example, to replace the cardboard parts with high-quality wooden or metal parts. In addition, there are miniatures to replace curses with these so that they are a bit more prominent on the game board. These parts are not at all essential for playability, but may increase your playing pleasure if you like luxury. The luxury dice trays allow you to safely throw the many dice that Uprising is rich in.
