Review: Namasté (moses.Verlag) – English

Namasté is both a greeting and a mudra. The word originates from Sanskrit “nam” (to bow) and means “I bow to you”. It is a way to greet one another and, above all, to show respect. You may know it from the end of your yoga session: after moving back and forth between downward facing dog and warrior II pose, transitioning to a high plank, and rediscovering your inner peace in child’s pose, it’s time to wrap up the session and greet each other. Bring your palms together at your heart, make a small bow, and say: namasté. Incidentally, this is also the title of the new dice game from Tuckers Fun Factory.

In the game Namasté, players fill rows and columns with ascending numbers, making sure that the same number does not appear in the same row or column. Players earn points by completing rows or columns, receiving the total value of the numbers they have written in the pink spaces of a row or column as their score for that row or column. Do keep in mind that the player who scores a space first receives more points. Therefore, players try to place high numbers without blocking themselves, as dice tend to do as they please.

Each turn, the active player chooses how many white dice he or she wants to roll (1, 2, or 3). The blue die is always included. The active player adds up the total value of all the dice (white and blue), and the other players may write the value of the white dice on their own sheet. If you cannot place a value, you have bad karma and receive penalty points. The game ends when a player has filled all their spaces or runs out of karma. The round is then completed.

Namasté is a very simple dice game with an interesting scoring mechanism. Optimising that score is the challenging element. A simple and accessible dice game to help you rediscover your inner peace. Namasté.
