Review: Chili Dice (Amigo Spiele) – English

You probably know Yahtzee: a well-known old-fashioned dice game in which you throw the dice with 5 dice a maximum of three times per turn. There are different ways to score points, such as major street, minor street, equal values and bonus points for throwing Yahtzee. You know the drill and I don’t really need to explain this game. Chili Dice promises Yahtzee with a little more kick. Is Chili Dice the next hot thing or does it cool down your love for dice games?

In Chili Dice, you chuck dice across the table and collect points in a similar way as in Yahtzee. Again, you can collect points by rolling dice in a street or by throwing as many sixes as possible. It sounds cold as ice, but there are definitely some differences from the classic throwing game. Chili Dice consists of six dice, 10 rounds and a maximum of 30 throws. During a turn, you can set aside dice and roll again as many times as you like. You don’t have to stop after the third rolls, but be aware that you only have a maximum of 30 rolls at your disposal. Once you are satisfied with your roll, choose a scoring area and write down the score for that scoring area. Please note that you can only use each scoring face once, so the game has a maximum of ten turns per person.

In addition, each die has a side with red pips. Each die is unique and each die has a different number of eyes that are red. This red side can be used as a wild, but may also yield bonus points!

Chili Dice is a peppery dice game and is different enough from Yahtzee to give it a try. However, we have been spoiled in terms of dice games in recent years. Chili Dice cannot compete with the violence of more elaborate (and fun) dice games like Clever or Qwixx and many others. Do you find many dice too complex or do you just love Yahtzee? Don’t expect a very spicy experience though, sometimes a glass of milk is okay too.
